HISTORY OF THE RHODE ISLAND RED
Originally, the Rhode Island Red was created as a dual-purpose utility bird but their use in hybrid layer production far outweighs their popularity as a meat bird.
Rhode Island Red hens will lay a good number of large light brown eggs which has made them the most popular choice in the UK and Europe to use in hybrid crosses for commercial egg production.
RHODE ISLAND RED BEHAVIOUR
Rhode Island Red is a very friendly bird they are not flighty and are pretty placid in their nature.
If you are looking for a good egg-laying hen and you have children then the Rhode Island Red will make an excellent pet chicken. They will also provide you with plenty of eggs to see you through the year even in the wintertime they will still lay eggs. They may slow down in wintertime but you will still get some eggs from them.
